March 27 Twelve Easy Steps To Total Destruction Of Your Health
Are you tired of all the
health and fitness freaks? You know: the ones that juice, jog, and junk out on Gym. They take daily supplements, build their muscles, and bore you incessantly. Articles on health and fitness abound, therefore this article should provide more interesting reading for you, the more discriminating and sophisticated reader. This article will lead you along a different path, a path already traveled, but not commonly so; and definitely more enjoyable! You will benefit by not being one of the crowd, and find more comfort and solace in being an individual, with plenty of time to yourself, and with no real ties or commitments. This is all you have to do: 1. No matter what time you wake up, start your day with a cigarette. And I don't mean low tar, low nicotine, go for the strongest and best. Keep a pack beside your bed so you won't interrupt your flow by having to get up. 2. After your first cigarette you may want to consider getting up. But no too fast now, nothing faster than a slow crawl. Head for the kitchen a make yourself a nice, STRONG cup of coffee. Beware of Decaf and use only full strength! 3. Once your coffee is ready it's time to light up your second cigarette, and enjoy this with your first cup of coffee. Of course no cup of coffee is complete without a second and it also provides the opportunity for another cigarette. See! All this and you haven't even left the house. 4. Avoid establishing good bowel habits. Spend more time drinking coffee and smoking cigarettes. This way you'll be sure you're running late for work, and you won't have time to clear your bowel, setting the way for chronic constipation. 5. Never walk to work! Always drive to make sure you get a daily dose of road stress, you know, that great feeling that accumulates from sitting behind the wheel, stuck in traffic! 6. Make sure you drink more coffee during the day, soaked up with lots donuts and followed by a cigarette each time. 7. For lunch, be sure to have plenty of deep fried foods, the ones that are still dripping while they reach your mouth, and make sure you eat plenty, and eat it fast, that way indigestion will be unavoidable. After all why should you deprive yourself the joy of taking Antacids? 8. On your way home smoke plenty more cigarettes in the enclosed space of your car, this adds to the accumulation of road stress and ensures maximum absorption of passive smoke as well. 9. Once at home, reward yourself with half a bottle of whiskey. Order pizza, especially the one with pepperoni, cabanossi and other processed meat. Finnish the other half bottle of whiskey with your evening meal, topped up with a few beers. 10. Flop yourself down on the lounge in front of your TV, making sure you have your remote beside you, your cigarettes, and more beer before you flop, otherwise you may have to get up again. 11. After you've fallen asleep and woke up again a few times, head for your bed, go to sleep and have plenty of nightmares. 12.In the morning, start all over again, as in Step 1 About The Author: Alfred Bellanti is a published author and webmaster of http://www.mindbody.biz March 15 Forget Diets - To Achieve Health And Wellness, Learn To Eat Intentionally
South Beach? Jenny
Craig? Weight Watchers? Discount Vitamins? Discount Herbs? As America's waistline grows, more of us are looking for help in fighting the battle of the bulge. However, we're bombarded by nutrition information overload, much of it contradictory. Perhaps we can help make some sense of this subject. First, the simple truth; we gain weight when we burn up fewer calories than we digest. No hocus-pocus can change that. To lose weight, we must reduce the amount we digest, or the amount we burn up. Most weight loss programs target one or more of these points. Some math is inevitable, and we apologize. A pound of fat represents roughly 3,500 calories. A moderate walk might burn 300 calories an hour, so for each pound you want to lose, plan to walk almost 12 hours and 36 miles, about one and a quarter laps of Manhattan Island, or 21 times across the Golden Gate Bridge. There are many benefits we realize from exercise, but losing weight strictly via exercise is a tough road. Therefore, most people end up tackling the calorie intake part of the problem. Here, we have countless choices of diet programs, but most fall into one of these categories; the food pyramid, carbohydrate restricted, and fat restricted. Diets such as Weight Watchers' Flex Plan concentrate on eating nutritious foods in proportions similar to those of the familiar food pyramid, while limiting total calorie intake. Using a number of psychological tools including group support, the company has one of the best records for sustained success. Companies such as Jenny Craig go one step further, providing clients with premade meals that do away with any decision making. However, they don't come cheap. In the 90's, following in the footsteps of Dr. Dean Ornish's claims that a minimal fat diet could reverse heart damage, low fat diets became popular. None had the impact, however, of Dr. Atkins revolutionary low-carb diet. The notion that we could lose weight while thriving on a regime of sausage and bacon was wildly popular with the public, and has led to offshoots such as the still-popular South Beach Diet. All have their shortcomings, however. Studies have shown the low-fat diet difficult to maintain. The low-carb diet has been linked with some increased health risks. Jenny Craig, and to a lesser degree Weight Watchers, take an ongoing financial commitment. The chances that weight lost via any of these diets will stay off after we complete the diet are poor, unless we come to accept that eating is a lifetime occupation, and finding the balance between intake and outgo is a life skill, not a campaign. The key to this is eating intentionally. The first step is learning what our body needs. For our body to function well, it needs protein and fat, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, essential fatty acids, and a thousand other nutrients. Whether from meal replacements or a savvy, wide selection of food, our health and wellness depends on stoking the engine that is our body with the proper fuel. Fortunately, what surprises many of us is that, once we start eating the fruits, vegetables, fiber that our body needs, our cravings for calorie and fat-laden snacks diminishes. The second step in eating intentionally is breaking the negative cycle of self-criticism. To quote Robin Williams in Good Will Hunting, "It's not your fault." Back in the days when we lived in caves and hunted with spears, plentitude and starvation were all to frequent. So our propensity to store food as fat is an instinct, one that served us well for thousands of years. However, this instinct isn't working for us now. In a time where scarcity isn't a problem, we need to learn to reprogram ourselves to reign in this instinct. Changing an instinctual behavior isn't impossible, either; we have learned to manage our instinct to reproduce, for example. What eating intentionally takes is understanding about nutrition, practice, and patience. Learning how what you eat determines how you feel and function. Practicing wise food selection (and by practicing we mean trying, making mistakes, and trying again). Patience means treating yourself with kindness, looking at eating as a lifelong process, and making steady but gradual changes that last. Learn to eat intentionally and you can jump off the diet roller coaster forever. And isn't that what we really want? About The Author: Silvio D'Amato is a leading clinician and health educator. Your mother always told
you that you needed to eat right in order to grow tall and strong - and she was right. Just as you wouldn't put water into your car's gas tank, you shouldn't be putting inferior fuel into your body's gas tank. But perhaps some of us have been swayed by food manufacturers' promises of fortified goodness in everything from sugary cereals to prepackaged processed foods. They have vitamins in them, so they must be healthy, right? Eating healthy is about more than just vitamins and minerals - here's what you stand to gain by eating right. More Money in Your Wallet What most people won't tell you is that eating right is actually more economically smart. When you choose fruits and vegetables over processed foods, you will reduce your overall spending on groceries. While it is true that fruits and vegetables can be more expensive in the short run, you can use them for more meals, while makes them less expensive to use per meal. For example, if you make a box of macaroni and cheese for dinner, that's going to cost about $3.00 for the package and $0.50 for the milk and butter you add. But if you were to make a salad for dinner, it will cost about $1.00 altogether, including some salad dressing. But it's not just the actual costs of healthy foods that will help you boost your financial health. By taking the time to spend money on healthy foods, you will reduce the health care costs you need to spend. Since your body will be healthier, you won't need to spend money on additional supplements or extra doctor's visits. This all adds up to a healthier life and a healthier bank account. You won't have to spend money on additional medications to help you maintain your blood sugars or your cholesterol levels. And studies have shown that those who take fewer medications tend to live longer lives. While you don't want to stop any current medications you are on, you might be able to reduce the list of medications you may have to take - and you already know how expensive they can be. Controlling Your Weight When you choose healthier foods, you will also be able to more easily control your weight. Instead of focusing your diet on foods that can spike your blood sugar, causing you to feel hungrier and thus eat more than you should, you can eat wholesome foods which have fiber and nutrients in them. The added fiber will help you to feel fuller for longer, while also keeping your blood sugars even. Fruits and vegetables also naturally have fewer calories in them, which helps you to have a lower caloric intake, leading to weight loss or weight maintenance. In addition, eating healthy exposes you to more tastes - vegetables, fruits, low fat dairy, low fat meats, and whole grains. The more tastes you have on your plate, the easier it will be for you to eat only what you need, rather than filling up on sugars and high salt processed choices - which tend to make you feel hungrier. Increased Immune System Function The better your body is functioning, the more likely it is that you won't get sick. Going back to the car example, when you fill it with premium foods, you won't have the buildup and the grime in your engines - the same idea applies to your body. By supplying your body with nutrients, you will enhance the body's response to illness. Your immune system will be strong and ready to defend itself against all sorts of attacks. And thus means that you will be able to fight off not just colds and flus, but also more serious diseases you might pick up. Even if you do get sick, it will be easier for you to get over that illness and get back to health. Reduced Chances of Chronic Illnesses Cancers and heart diseases are also much less likely when you eat healthy foods. When your cells are getting the highest levels of nutrition, they aren't susceptible to cellular damage, which can lead to cancers. And if you focus your diet on non-animal sources of nutrition, your cholesterol levels will be far lower, reducing your risk of heart attacks, plaque buildup and even strokes. This is especially the case as you get older. Since your body begins to slow down, you need to make sure you are only giving your body foods that are healthy as anything else can be difficult for your body to process, which can then lead to illness. Eating healthy isn't just something that you should do, it's something that you must do. With each bite of unhealthy food, you are damaging your body. While medicine is able to fix many age related problems, it's up to you to prevent these problems from happening in the first place. A long healthy life is something that's completely in your control, so why not do what works? Eat right. Beta Carotene is a
healthful supplement to most diets. Beta Carotene comes from the orange coloring naturally present in foods such as pumpkins, squash and sweet potatoes. The scientist who discovered the nutrient of "carotene," did so by crystallizing a mixture created from carrots. Not only is this a powerful antioxidant, beta carotene is a provitamin A compound. This compound converts to Vitamin A once ingested. Among the many benefits of Vitamin A are healthy skin, hair, vision and an improved immune system. Alpha, beta, and gamma carotene nutrients are all considered "provitamin" because they are converted to Vitamin A in the body. Vitamin A deficiencies have been linked to a number of health problems. Those include bone development disorders and reproductive disorders. Commercial grade beta carotene typically changes to retinol in the body and this is essential to good vision. Beta Carotene is in the same carotenoid family as the oft-discussed lycopene, another powerful weapon against many diseases. Beta Carotene holds many benefits in itself. The compound also contains flavonoids. Flavonoids are also antioxidants and are found in most red and orange fruits. Other items that contain beta carotene include: tomatoes, cantaloupe, watermelon, apricots and mangoes. Food items containing a spectrum of the carotenoid, including beta carotene are: spinach, broccoli, kale, and lettuce. Foods that contain the healthful flavonoids hold them just around the skin so it isn't recommended that you peel these fruits. If you remove the skin, you will likely strip away these beneficial nutrients. Beta carotene has been studied for its effectiveness with such diseases and disorders as: anemia, cataracts, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), cystic fibrosis, benign breast disease, immune system enhancement, Graves' Disease, improving lung function, macular degeneration, osteoarthritis, angioplasty, cancer, cardiovascular disease, postoperative injury prevention, stroke, sepsis and many others. All scientific proof has resulted in a diverse report on each theory. Your health care professional will have further information. Beta carotene supplements come in capsules, chewable tablets or typical tablets. If you want a natural way, this will require five to eight servings of fruit and vegetables a day. This amount seems to be prohibitive to many and supplements may be ideal for such a situation. As wonderful as Vitamin A is for the healthy body, there are some cautions you should consider before making this a part of your daily regimen. Smokers or those who drink alcohol should not use this supplement. People who are allergic to orange foods should not take beta carotene. As with any change in your diet, discuss the benefits or risks of beta carotene with your physician prior to using the supplement. There are little in the way of scientific study or research involving children and beta carotene. There is also minimal information in regards to pregnant or nursing women using this supplement. Your healthcare provider should be consulted in either of these situations. Carefully study product labels. The FDA does not usually regulate the use of herbs or supplements. There is also the fact that many supplements are produced synthetically with the use of palm oil, algae or fungi. Hence, make sure the supplement you purchase is from a reputable name brand company that gets tested regularly for quality assurance. In my experience, luck
has very little to do with achieving home based business success. People who succeed in their home based business are typically the ones who are always positive, believe they will succeed, have a burning desire, goals, knowledge and courage to implement a plan of action. How can you believe and expect to succeed in your home business if you allow yourself only negative input. Discover how to lift your mood and your energy with these five simple tips and the home business blues will become a song of the past. 1. Just as you can choose your mood for the day, you can choose positive things that will give you a lift the first thing every morning. Those could be for example, just as simple as, seeing your wife's or husband's smiling face, or your children playing in the living room floor, or what ever. It doesn't matter what those are. The most important thing is that they make you feel good and happy. 2. When you're not physically healthy, your energy levels are compromised, your mind doesn't function at optimum efficiency, your moods may be altered and heavy, and an imbalance may be created that will affect all areas of your life and business. Take care of yourself. Eat healthy and excersise regularly. I am sure you know the phrase "Healthy Mind In Healthy Body". 3. Lift your mood by having the time of your life, literally. If you will force yourself to call a friend and meet for coffee, a movie, a walk, a talk - anything to get out and change your atmosphere, the chances are good that will have a good effect on changing your mood for the better. 4. Watching an hour long comedy where we laugh and take our mind off our daily problems can last for hours or days as far as reducing chronic pain, a "blue mood" feeling. This is very effective way for me personally to cheer up if I feel a little bit down. 5. Music (hearing it or playing it) has long been used by people of all cultures to create or alter a mood. It will change your mood for the better if you allow it to and if you concentrate on the music and creating and forget how you have been feeling. Now that you have created choices for yourself to lift your mood, reward yourself every time you make a positive choice. No matter what type of reward it is, make sure it's something that doesn't counteract your home business goals, but instead makes you want to achieve more. Knowing that all of the income you have coming in was created because of you is a great feeling. Being positive and energetic makes you more effective, being effective makes you more money, and making more money, trust me, feels soooo good. In summary, to be successful home business owner you must have positive attitude in all areas of your life. Positive attitude comes from yourself. It is all up to you how you keep your mind healthy. March 03 The Importance of Fiber for Weight Loss and Health
We live in a time when
most of our food sources are composed of convenient, fast, and processed foods. In addition to the chemicals and preservatives added, this has resulted in food with less nutritional value. One of those nutritional values is the lowered amounts of natural fiber. One of the disturbing health concerns that has resulted from this is that we have had an enormous increase in the number of people, especially young people, wh are overweight or obese. Excess weight leads to other physical health concerns and also emotional health concerns, i.e. self image and esteem. People without excess weight concerns consume about 33% more dietary fiber than people who suffer weight issues. There are good reasons that people who consume more dietary fiber do not experience weight concerns. When soluble fiber combines with water, it swells the stomach giving a greater feeling that hunger has been satisfied without adding excess calories. Fiber slows the digestion process resulting in feelings of hunger occurring less frequently and providing our bodies with the time needed to properly absorb nutrients. This eliminates the feeling of hunger and feeling the need to continue eating which leads to excess weight. Fiber reduces the occurrence of spikes in blood-glucose levels which possibly leads to insulin insensitivity and food cravings. Fiber may also reduce the absorption of fat. Fiber also lowers cholesterol levels which is a serious concern for people with excess weight. High cholesterol in bile is responsible for the formation of gallstones that lead to pain and gallbladder surgery. Fiber lowers cholesterol as effectively as statin drugs, which carry the risk of harmful side effects. Most of us consume half of the dietary fiber that we need. Lack of dietary fiber is associated with health concerns such as hemorrhoids, cancer, diabetes, varicose veins, heat dissease, appendicitis and chronic constipation. Chronic constipation is a huge complaint of many people, especially older people, and accounts for millions of visits to a doctor and is among the most frequently given reasons for the purchase of prescription or patient, synthetic drugs with their possible harmful side effects. Antacids often contain aluminum and synthetic painkillers and antidepressants may actually cause constipation. Fiber contributes greatly to the healthy function of our digestive system by removing sludge, mucus, heavy metals and fat and relieving constipation and/or diarrhea which is essential for weight loss. Fiber protects against diverticulosis by keeping waste soft and easy to eliminate. Straining hard to eliminate waste contributes to diverticulosis and also hemorrhoids. Since many of our processed and fast foods contain little fiber, we can increase our fiber intake with the use of supplements that contain additional amounts of fiber and also contribute in many other ways to our health as well as assisting us in reducing and maintaining our weight. Oat bran fiber contains a great deal of soluble fiber that forms a gel which produces a soft easy flow of the contents of our stomach and small intestine. This helps decrease constipation distress. The gel delays our stomach emptying giving us a longer feeling of our hunger being satisfied helping with weight loss. Oat bran fiber is also very effective in lowering cholesterol levels by attaching to cholesterol and eliminating it. People who consume oat bran fiber are far less likely to become overweight. Apple pectin is a fiber that can be obtained in supplement form. It is a powder obtained from dried apples. Apple pectin lowers cholesterol levels, helps prevent hardening of the arteries, diabetes and may inhibit cancer metastases. Apple pectin corrects constipation and promotes digestive health including promoting the health of intestinal flora. Apple pectin is tolerated by most people with allergies. Green foods can be obtained in supplement form and contain good amounts of fiber. In addition, green foods provide antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, amino acids, active enzymes, bioflavonoids, chlorophyll and other phytonutrients necessary for cellular metabolism, repair and protection, enhanced digestion and absorption of nutrients, and detoxification. All this is vital for health and weight loss. Most of us do not get a good amount of green foods that we need because of our modern eating habits. Flaxseed oil is one of the best choices of high fiber food. Mucilage is the unique soluble fiber in flaxseed that absorbs moisture and forms mucilagenous substance that cleans and soothes intestinal walls and relieves many intestinal discomforts. Flaxseed oil contains many vitamins, minerals and other elements that contribute to balancing blood sugar levels as well as other benefits. Balancing blood sugar levels is very important for weight loss and energy as well as a feeling of well being. Flaxseed oil lowers cholesterol and triglycerides. It helps satisfy hunger with few calories and reduces the absorption of fats. Many of us have experience the benefit of using fiber to lose weight.. We come to know the use of fiber for weight loss as "fiber trimming" or "fiber thin". In addition, we have experienced many other very important health benefits from fiber beyond weight loss. The way foods are being processed for convenient consumption, little preparation and for long shelf life makes it difficult for us to obtain proper nutrition and health benefit without using natural health supplements. This is also true of our obtaining a healthy amount of fiber in our diets. Green foods, oat bran, apple pectin, and flaxseed oil are easily obtainable in supplement form. The cost, economically and emotionally, of obtaining natural health supplements to gain and maintain good health is far less than the cost of illness and medical care where we risk the possibility of harmful side effects from prescription, patient, synthetic drugs and medical procedures. Fiber each day, keeps the doctor away. Prevention is far less expensive in so many ways, than repair. We can lose weight, improve our health and feel far better about ourselves with the use of supplemental dietary fiber.
